Leo P. Gallagher & Son has for decades provided the area’s Jewish families with specialized care. We offer reassuring guidance for those entrusted with making final arrangements and are an invaluable resource to those unfamiliar with Jewish burial customs.

In keeping with Jewish tradition, we are able to accommodate immediate burial needs and are well-versed in the customs that express the sanctity of a Jewish funeral. The funeral home has a mikvah for immersion during taharah (purification). It was built under the close supervision and blessing of valued Jewish leaders in our community.

In addition, arrangements for a shemira (watching) can be made at a family’s request, and cotton or hand-sewn linen tachrichim (burial garments) are available. A large selection of oron (caskets) are guaranteed free of metal and have been manufactured in a facility that does not operate on the Sabbath. We also provide families with kriah ribbons, yahrzeit calendars and shiva candles.

For those unaffiliated with a synagogue, our funeral directors work closely with orthodox, conservative and reform rabbis who conduct dignified chapel and graveside services that console the family and honor the deceased.

History

Community leader Leo P. Gallagher Sr. established Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home in Stamford, in 1928. In 1953, Leo Jr. joined his father to continue the family tradition of compassionate funeral service. The firm was located on Suburban Avenue for 52 years until fire forced a relocation to a custom-built facility on Summer Street. Our main entrance arch features a beautiful stained-glass window—the only salvageable piece from the original location.

Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home has been a vital part of the community. For nearly 100 years we have served families from all walks of life with unflagging dedication. Every year since 2016, the National Funeral Directors Association has honored the funeral home and recognized our outstanding service with its Pursuit of Excellence Award. This distinction is bestowed on less than 1 percent of all funeral homes nationally, and it is a reflection of our founder’s legacy.
